Grammar notes
The future with باش
باش (bech) before the verb expresses intention or the near future.
- باش ناكلbech nekelI'm going to eat
- باش تجي ؟bech tji?Are you going to come?
- باش يخدمbech yokhdemHe's going to work
Did you know?
Talking about the future, people nearly always add إن شاء الله inchallah (God willing): باش نْسافِر إن شاء الله. It isn't only a religious formula, it's a way of taking nothing for granted: leaving it out can sound presumptuous.
باش also marks the near future: باش نِمْشِي = I'm going to leave. Purpose and intention use the same little word; context (and usually a verb of wanting or moving in front of it) is what separates in order to from going to.
